Welcome to my blog. I hope it becomes an excellent go-to resource whenever you are challenged with a design dilemma or just want to find support and share ideas.

As a professional Interior Designer offering tips and problem solving solutions, I would like to leave you with not just valuable information but also a sense of understanding. You will find the common thread throughout my articles will be about the ability to see. You can read books, watch T.V. and take classes on design but until you can stand back and understand what you are looking at, none of it will really make sense. The only real design formula that gives you the answers is in your mind’s eye. There, what you see is stored and evaluated for the purpose of reconstruction. That’s where you decide what’s missing or as I commonly refer to as “what’s broken”. How and why you reconstruct is what gives you the desired effect of the changes you are about to make.

When you look at a beautiful room in a magazine and say things like “I never would have picked that fabric but it really looks good here”. Or, “I never would have used that paint color but it does something wonderful for this room”. Even, “I never would have put those furniture pieces together but I think I like it”, its important to know that it takes more than courage to be successful. These designers are not just guessing. They have a preconceived idea that started in their mind’s eye and was formulated to meet certain design goals with a particular outcome in mind.

So if you’re wondering where to start, just stop and take the time to see. Good design starts internally.
